Teaching Philosophy
My objectives as an art educator are:
To provide a place that cultivates community, teaching students the importance of relationships within art and collaboration.
To grant the opportunity to be the place where students are challenged to be creative and to expand their own view of how visual communication connects to all areas of their education.
To nurture a culture within my classroom that is patient and kind, in order to encourage students to trust in the process of self-discovery, problem solving, and, sometimes, how to fail gracefully.
To promote awareness and an appreciation for the art and traditions of various cultures, which ensure my students, are effective, able and creative visual communicators.
To use provoking questions to bring my students to their own answers, while encouraging them to form their own questions and sit with the combination of the ambiguity from not knowing, and thrill of finding the answers.
To encourage students to be seen and heard for who they are and gently guide them in their journey of personal growth.
To remember, I am the lucky one to be the instructor, the facilitator, the audience, and a learner alongside my students.
