4th Grade Collage Facades of Portland
4th grade students at Fred P. Hall Elementary School, in Portland, Maine learned about the history of their great state, Portland and the Longfellow house. My mentor teacher, the 4th grade primary teachers, and I got together to think about what students were going to incorporate and share at the Maine Historical Society exhibition. Using cardboard and other like materials, students designed a place in Portland that means the most to them. But how would they communicate that to an audience? With emphasis, of course! Students used cardboard and like materials that popped off the base of their project to achieve high relief, therefore emphasizing and telling the viewer what about the place is special to them. Students worked on their individual pieces and added their pieces to a collaboration base, which exemplified the collaborative spirit of their school and community.
