5th grade students will be introduced to the purposes of making art in the Paleolithic era and what was being communicated through the cave artists’ pictographs. Students will research Maine endangered animals and become modern day cave artists that will document the animal of their choice through their drawings/pictographs. The animal’s existence will be preserved with their drawings and promote awareness of the danger this animal is in if humans don’t change their ways. Further research will help students understand conservation efforts and write about what we can do to help remove these animals from the endangered species list for good.
